Privacy Policy for Game Launcher
Effective date: August 24, 2026
This policy describes how the Game Launcher mobile application handles information.
Summary
Game Launcher does not require an account, does not include an analytics SDK, does not
have a cloud service, and does not sell personal information. The list of applications
installed on your device is read on the device to build your games grid and is never
transmitted anywhere. The app is free to download and is supported by advertising served
through Google AdMob; a one-time in-app purchase removes all ads.
Information stored on the device
The app stores the following data in its own application storage when you use the
relevant features:
- the package names and display names of the applications you have chosen to show on
your games grid, and the applications you have chosen to exclude from it;
- for each of those applications, how many times you have launched it from Game
Launcher, when it was first installed, when you last launched it, the total time it
has been in the foreground while a session was running, and whether you have marked
it a favorite;
- app preferences, including theme, accent color, grid density, language, screen
orientation, sort order, and your screen recording settings;
- whether the Plus upgrade has been purchased on this device;
- whether the introduction has been completed, and an internal counter used to space
out full-screen ads; and
- any screen recordings and screenshots you choose to create.
Recordings and screenshots are written to the app's own external storage directory
(Android/data/com.shent.gamelauncher/files/). Files placed there are not added
to your photo gallery and are not visible to other applications. Android normally removes
this directory, and the app's private data, when the app is uninstalled.
Information transmitted off the device
Game Launcher transmits information off the device for one purpose only: advertising.
- Unless you have bought the Plus upgrade, ad requests and the information described
under Advertising are sent to Google when an ad is shown, and a consent request may
be sent to Google's User Messaging Platform.
Nothing else leaves the device. In particular:
- the list of applications installed on your device is not transmitted.
Game Launcher determines which applications are games entirely on the device, using
the category Android itself reports for each application;
- your screen recordings and screenshots are not uploaded. They are
only shared if you choose to share one, in which case it is sent only to the
destination you pick in Android's share sheet; and
- your play counts, play time, grid layout and settings are not
transmitted.
Advertising
Game Launcher displays a banner above the bottom bar and, occasionally, a full-screen ad
before a game launches. Ads are served by the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob).
- To request, frequency-cap, and measure ads, the SDK may access this device's
advertising ID and the approximate region implied by the device IP address, and may
collect the diagnostic and device information described in Google's policies.
- The SDK is not given your games list, play statistics, recordings, screenshots, or
settings.
- Where required by law, a Google User Messaging Platform consent form is shown before
personalized ads are requested. You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad
personalization at any time in Android Settings.
- Buying Plus stops all ad requests.
- Advertising data handling is governed by the
Google Privacy Policy and
How Google uses
information from sites or apps that use our services.
Purchases
The one-time Game Launcher Plus purchase is processed by Google Play. Google Play handles
payment and receives the information needed to complete it. Game Launcher receives only
whether the purchase exists for the Google account signed in on the device, and stores that
answer on the device so Plus features keep working offline. The app never sees or stores
payment card details.
Screen recording and screenshots
Screen recording and screenshots are off until you enable them, and are started only by
you, from the notification shown while a game session is running.
- Each capture requires Android's own screen-sharing consent dialog. Android displays a
recording indicator while a capture is in progress.
- A capture records the whole screen, so anything visible during the recording is
included. Stop the recording before showing anything you do not want captured.
- Recordings and screenshots are saved only to the app's own storage directory
described above. They are not uploaded, and are not added to your photo gallery.
- Recording with audio is a Plus feature. "Game audio" records the sound applications
are playing, using Android's playback capture API; some applications opt out of being
captured, and those will record silently. "Microphone" records from the microphone
instead.
Permissions
- Query all packages (
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES): used to list
the applications installed on this device so they can be shown on the grid, and to
detect which of them are games. This list is processed on the device and is never
transmitted.
- Post notifications: used for the session notification that lets you
record or take a screenshot, and to tell you when a capture has been saved.
- Do Not Disturb access (
ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY): used
only if you turn on Do Not Disturb for game sessions, so the app can silence
interruptions while you play and restore your previous setting afterwards.
- Record audio: used only when you record with audio. Android requires
this permission for game audio as well as for microphone audio.
- Foreground service, including media projection and microphone types:
used to keep a screen recording running reliably while you play.
- Stop background processes (
KILL_BACKGROUND_PROCESSES):
used only if you turn on freeing memory before launching, to ask Android to stop other
applications' background processes.
- Request delete packages: used only if you choose to uninstall a game
from its tile menu. Android always shows its own confirmation before anything is
removed.
- Vibrate: used for short feedback when interacting with the grid.
- Internet and network state: used to request ads and consent messages.
No other feature of the app uses the network.
- Advertising ID (
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID):
used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK to deliver and frequency-cap ads. Buying Plus stops
all ad requests.
Permission access can be changed at any time in Android Settings. Features may not
function if their required permission is denied.
Data retention and deletion
Your grid, play statistics and settings remain until you change them, clear the app's
storage, or uninstall the app. Recordings and screenshots remain until you delete them in
the app's Captures screen, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Device-local data
cannot be retrieved or deleted remotely, because the app has no account and no cloud
service.
Children
Game Launcher is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. The
app does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and its ad requests are
tagged as not child-directed.
Security
Device-local data is stored in Android's application storage. Network requests made by
the advertising SDK use HTTPS. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely
secure.
Changes
This policy may be updated when the app's features or legal requirements change. The
effective date at the top will be updated when changes are material.
